While I was in Sydney, I made my way to the NSW State Library to view an exhibition named STUDIO. Studio is a book, video and exhibition project that has been underway since 2002 and showcases a selection of Australia's most important Artists in their studio environment.

The exhibition consists of 61 large colour photographic studies of the artists in their studios.

One of the photo's that stood out for me was this photograph of Lucy Culliton in her studio. She is not the most famous artist in the exhibition or is her studio the most lavish. I think what appeals to me is how real her space is and how humble she comes across to the viewer. If you look closely you can see her 2 pet mice in her hand. Also her subject matter includes cacti and succulents which I am a fan of.

Biennale of Sydney

Last week I was in Sydney to see the 16th Biennale of Sydney, Australia's festival of contemporary art. It was the biggest that they have ever staged, presenting works by more than 180 artists from over 42 countries. I wish that I was able to be in Sydney longer so I could have seen more of this fabulous festival. For those who are not in Sydney, works will also appear in an experimental constantly evolving online venue which can be visited here.
